Turning Your Brand Page to 2012

A new year, some new toys to play with. Changes to Facebook Places, the addition of Google Plus Pages, and a big feature roll-out for brands on Twitter that we’re still in the midst of. Tumblr and LinkedIn continue to grow their user base, and new apps coming onto the scene, like Instagram continue to offer new possibilities for branded social experiences. Sounds like the perfect time for a quick survey, heading into 2012, to make sure your brand’s presence is in order. Let’s break them down into channels. Social media is unavoidable for anyone with a desk job and a finger (at least a little bit) on the pulse of things. Let’s face it, for those of us connected, sooner or later you’re going to get the distraction and head over to Facebook. For some employers, time equates 100% to money and every minute wasted is a dollar lost – an unfortunate but realistic factor of capitalism. But for many on the employee side, powering through the day can be a challenge when the social sphere is only a click away.

Tumblr users react in real time to the events of Michael Jackson’s memorial service streaming live on the internet.

That’s right, yet another blogger pontificating on Michael Jackson’s untimely death. But give me just a second here! For this post is more about the almighty internet rather than the King of Pop. Which is a great segue into what I’m getting at. The last time a celebrity of this magnitude was buried with this much media attention was the King of Rock N’ Roll, Elvis Presley, and I just want to take a moment to note how much things have changed since then.
