Last Week’s Meme (Episode 3)

It’s Friday, which means it’s time to drop another installment of everyone’s favourite ongoing blog-isode, Last Week’s Meme!! Where the team at Engine Digital decides on the most exciting thing that happened on the Internet, a week too late. (we’re busy, ok?)
It’s unanimous. Episode 3 of this week’s Last Week’s Meme is the autotune version of the Bed Intruder video. Bed Intruder made its first appearance on the internet earlier in the month and was quickly sucked into its vortex, consumed, and spit out as a chart topping epic tale about a home invasion, break in and attempted rape that took place in Lincoln Park, a North Side community in Chicago.
Despite the very serious nature of the original news story, the meme that quickly followed it cannot be ignored. It’s insanely catchy, rather brilliant, and is currently placing at 89 on the top100 at Billboard.com. The hit remix is also available for download on iTunes, and with Bed Intruder pushing almost 10 million views on Youtube, it’s been downloaded almost 30 000 times. And talk about getting some good out of the bad, the Dodson’s (who appear in the original news clip as the victims of the attempted rape/robbery) are listed as co-writers, meaning they get half the profits of those downloads. Clearly, Bed Intruder is last week’s winning meme, this week.
As we close another installment of Last Week’s Meme, this week, we’d like to take a moment to honor this video as a runner up. We have no idea what exactly this lady is doing, but we find it very inspiring. Enjoy your weekend! And we’ll see you all next time on Last Week’s Meme.
