Five Great Tributes That RIP Steve Jobs

And no, it’s not tweeting iSad, but if your Macintosh computer acts a little slower today, that’s because it lost its dad last night so give the thing a break. To commemorate the life and times of Apple’s creator, Steve Jobs, we’ve picked out our five 5 favourite meme-ish tributes who got the jump on the news of his passing last night (October 4th, 2011).
It only seems fitting, since Steve was largely responsible for the introduction of computers into the home, thus allowing it to enter the realm of the everyday where the mindless amusement of the meme was born. So let’s take a look a few cool, funny and poignant commemorations from a world he did so much to enable.
Steve Jobs: all the covers via Kudo Design. I don’t think it can be all the covers, can it? Regardless, these are the good ones. Including the cover image for our blog post. Check them out.
At 1000 comments and counting on his Tumblr alone, 19 year old Jonathan Mak creates the entry that’s making the most headway into the 15minutes of fame category. Visit Jonathan’s original post with this image.
Vancouver based Cameron Reed gets the LULZ vote with his hilarious discovery of people hitting the “I” instead of the “O” during a QWERTY panic to get the jump on the news. And it’s still going.
Ok, it’s my own entry, but I think it’s worthy. Upon hearing of Steve’s passing last night I had my Macbook re-speech the birth of its ancestor in 1984, which launched the Macintosh era. Listen to it here: the part where it says “the man who is like a father to me…” is especially touching.
Alex Bogusky, an innovator in his own right referenced this sad Finder on his Fearless Revolution site. Very poignant, but no credit to who actually made it though. Visit Fearless Revolution.
Most of us here at Engine Digital grew up on Jobs’ era Apple computers, a claim that doesn’t seem very special right now, but will become increasingly scarce as time moves further away from this date. Despite his death, Steve Jobs is still very much seen as a person, but as the years add up he will eventually attain the mythical status he is no doubt headed for because Apple Computer will probably be around forever. So may the man RIP, but Steve Jobs the legend? Well, that part of his life has only just begun.
