The Parallax View: A Scroll Party for Your Browser
09/28/2011 @ 3:45 pmBy: David Look

Nope, it’s not a 1974 Warren Beatty flick about government assassins battling it out on the top of the Space Needle, but it does make for an excellent title and segue. The Parallax View is actually not a view, it’s the simple scroll of a mouse that unveils the latest design cowbell of HTML5 enabled sites: Parallax Scrolling.
par·al·lax/ˈparəˌlaks/ Noun: The effect whereby the position or direction of an object appears to differ when viewed from different positions.
Few sites have sent Art Directors hovering and pointing over their developer’s shoulder to make a site like Nike’s A Better World, and while it did take everyone a little time to figure out how they did it, the imitators have got a handle on things and parallax scrolling is becoming the new IT thing in your I.T. And some sites are even raising the the bar! Now, let’s start the party.
Nike A Better World

This is a party, a scroll party so instead of getting into debates at who invented P. Scrollin’ let’s just say the Nike’s A Better World was the best first. SCROLL IT!
Nizo

Nobody knows what Nizo is, but everyone that is anyone knows this site. It was an early runner in the the P. Scrolling category. If these guys actually had a content strategist on board to help define what a Nizo is and when you could get one they might be rich by now. SCROLL IT!
Tron: Legacy Comic

The Tron franchise is always at the foreground of innovation so it makes perfect sense that Disney came out with this sweet HTML5 comic that has great depth and loads of parallax movement. SCROLL IT!
The World’s Fair: Eldorado

I’m not sure what this site is all about. It has a pretty nice design, and scrolls parallax, but guys we need more Parallax! SCROLL IT!
Art of Flight The Movie
A great match in content for the parallax, snowboarding! Heading down this slope is better than a double black diamond cheese sandwich in a Whistler bar. SCROLL IT!
Head 2 Heart

This site gets you scrolling for a good cause, or in this case, 2 of them. See those clouds? That’s some parallax action. SCROLL IT!
The New Beetle

Our final entry is the latest in parallax pizazz. It has it all: sideswipes, splintered graphics that come together, countdowns, driving cars, a killer interface and of course, a cool product. SCROLL IT! or as the German’s say, Jetzt scrollen!
Now, I’m sure I’ve missed plenty of hot scroll action, so please feel free to join the party by adding your favourite Parallax Scrolling site. Until then though, this party’s over. Hope you had a swell time.
