The Brand Experience & Online Financial Reports

For the past few years, Engine Digital has worked in collaboration with our client-side counterparts on the continued evolution of the TELUS Online Annual Report. And while this behemoth of a project has never failed to result in late nights of production and coding and a general ‘all hands on deck’ approach to team management, we need to hand it to our team for always delivering a solid final product.

As the content presented through this report is incredibly sensitive in terms of accuracy, the process in bringing the AR to life online has presented its challenges. As the recently launched 2008 version is now our third such launch, we have seen our team approach this project with a fresh perspective every year; addressing content challenges in clever ways, and delivering a layer of brand story that balances the depth of financials. In 2008, we extended the use of Adobe Flash technology beyond the brand story, enhancing the display of content. Unique elements of interactivity were added to deepen the level of user engagement in financial content, providing more opportunities for interaction and personalized output of content. These incremental improvements to user experience have kept TELUS on the cutting edge on online reporting.

The year-over-year response to our final product from within the market and reporting review circle has been significant, landing an award at the DMA’s and recognition from within the TELUS organization and beyond.

The TELUS Online Annual Report represents no less than 5 months of planning and creative development. From initiation through launch, we work closely alongside an extremely driven team of TELUS representatives to redefine the aesthetic and general strategy of the report. We thank the TELUS team for their continued support and the trust they have placed in the Engine Digital team in launching this incredibly important annual initiative.

Regardless of the volume of planning that goes into this project, it can always be redacted to an incredible process of crunching code powered by plenty of coffee. At one point or another, nearly every member of the Engine Digital team, from partners to designers and developers, to project coordinators to office admins, spend countless hours transforming a mountain of static content into a living and breathing digital experience. And because the report is bilingual, this process must happen twice.

Special thanks are in order for our team, Dave Smith, for delivering solid creative, building on our vision for this initiative, and Dane Wu, for providing a resilient approach to web dev and troubleshooting. Other late shift workers that deserve a nod include Gary Chow, Phil Andrews, Yaz Jallad, Yves Saint-Lary and Justine Kwong all who chipped in to deliver what we believe to be one of the premier and cutting-edge examples of online reporting.
